Supervisory Park Ranger

This position serves as a Supervisory Park Ranger (Interpretation) in the Division of Interpretation and Education at the Natchez Trace Parkway. The incumbent reports to the park's Chief of Interpretation and will be responsible for planning, management and coordination of interpretive, educational and visitor center operations in the Ridgeland and Natchez District. The incumbent will be relied on to provide strategic planning and operational information to the Chief of Interpretation and the management staff. Park resources are complex, and include the potential for a wide range of natural and cultural history interpretation. Parkway staff in the southern districts also oversee resources related to the Natchez Trace National Scenic Trail. The major duties of the position include, but are not limited to the following:

Ensures that regulatory requirements, established policies, and management direction governing services delivered by Interpretation are accomplished within established timeframes and performed within professionally accepted standards. Ensures effective daily operation of staffed visitor center. Provides outreach services, contract oversight, and advisory services; Development of long range work plans, annual action plans, strategic planning, evaluation, project management, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders. Analyzes visitation trends, visitor use patterns, and recreation data. Coordinates planning, development, and updates to all interpretive media; Works well as a team member, supports the group's efforts, and shows an ability to handle a variety of interpersonal situations; Communicates effectively to ensure success of Parkway and service-wide goals. Speaks openly and honestly, but supports and effectively articulates decisions. Supports what is identified as the best for the parkway, its resources, and public; Consistently demonstrates a strong customer service orientation in all interactions with employees and people doing business with the parkway; Establishes and fosters working relationships with Parkway partners, including volunteer, community groups, educational institutions, non-profits, etc. Presents or explains complicated or controversial subjects to a variety of audiences so that desired outcomes are achieved. Identifies messages to various audiences and determines the most effective method of conducting outreach to them on a monthly basis; Coordinates and leads public affairs, community engagement, and outreach activities in support of complex public relations issues and mission enhancing activities. The position coordinates messaging and talking points with the Chief of Interpretation. Responds to national and local media outlets for inquiries, develops and disseminates press releases, talking points, and briefing statements in coordination with staff via web, social media, and other media outlets; and Pursues various social media ways to get messages about the parkway to new audiences. Identifies messages to various audiences and determines the most effective method of conducting outreach to them on an every other month basis. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect either full-time or 40 hours per week. To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must possess one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
Experience:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is defined as
Experience:
1) Coordinating, managing, or directing interpretive programs; 2) Leading, supervising, or managing staff; and 3) Developing long range interpretive program plans and/or educational programs. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION:
Successful completion of at least 3 full academic years of progressively higher level graduate education or a Ph/D. or equivalent doctoral degree related to the occupation. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
