The Human Resources Assistant will perform a variety of technical tasks in support of Human Resources management as a member of the Western Administrative Service Unit (W-ASU), headquartered at the Natchez Trace Parkway in Tupelo, Mississippi. The W-ASU is responsible for administrative support for 13 National Park units located in 6 states in the Southeast Region.
The Natchez Trace Parkway is a 444-mile scenic by-way stretching from Natchez, Mississippi to Nashville, Tennessee. Tupelo has been listed as one of the ten most progressive small cities in the United States.
Schools are modern and considered excellent. Two-year,four-year, and graduate-level colleges are available. Tupelo is both a regional shopping and regional medical center offering a full-spectrum of modern services. Cultural pursuits include plays, a symphony, numerous historic sites, museums, craft centers, art galleries, a coliseum hosting national talent and events, and a variety of annual festivals. Outdoor recreational opportunities abound including fishing, biking, hiking, camping,horseback riding, and boating. Houses and apartments are available for purchase and rent at moderate prices. While summers can be hot and humid,springs and falls are quite pleasant and winters are generally mild.
U.S. Citizenship Required All males must be registered with the Selective Service You may be required to serve a one year probationary period The position is located in the servicing Human Resource Office at Natchez Trace Parkway. The person selected for this position is responsible for processing a full range of personnel actions in the Federal Payroll and Personnel System(FPPS) in support of park staff. Other duties this position is responsible for are on-boarding of new employees which includes new employee documents; determining employee benefit information; providing administrative and clerical support for staffing and recruitment; processing a variety of personnel actions and completing required tasks associated with processing and approving personnel actions; working with supervisors and HR specialists to expedite personnel actions requiring special handling; providing a variety of computerized quires and reports using automated software; provide payroll assistance; initiating background investigations, drug tests, medical/physicals, and sponsoring government ID cards. The employee will process workers'' compensation claims for on-the-job injuries; training supervisors and employees on the automated worker''s compensation program.

For the GS-06 level:
I have at least one year of full-time specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to the GS-05 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. This should include experience processing personnel actions and experience using automated systems associated with specific personnel functions for Federal HR disciplines.
For the GS-07 level:
I have at least one year of full-timespecialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility tothe GS-06 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. This should include experience processing personnel actions and experience using automated systems associated with specific personnel functions for Federal HR disciplines including recruitment and staffing, and employee benefit programs.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of Human Resources Assistant. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: clerical or administrative assistance functions for a business or organization, such as greeting clients and responding to inquiries in person, by email, on the telephone, and through regular mail; preparing correspondence and/or reports; keeping time and attendance records for staff; payroll; processing a variety of personnel actions; carrying out employee requests for changes in health or life insurance coverage; assisting new employees with completion of forms related to their appointments.
