Summary:
Assists the permit office and building division with answering citizen inquires by phone and/or in person, filing relevant paperwork and documents, and other clerical support duties in a calm and professional manner.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
Assist citizens, customers and employees by answering telephone calls, returning missed calls, forwarding messages, and referring customers to appropriate staff.
Assist with filing inspection reports and other documents related to building permit management system.
Assist with document and plan storage system as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.

None QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND/OR
Experience:
High school diploma or GED plus at least one-year work experience, with experience related to receptions, local government, building construction, or information systems preferred.
Computer literacy in Windows operating system.
Microsoft office products and geographic information or permit management systems is desirable.
Related education and related experience may be substituted on an equal basis.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to interact with the public and members of the construction industry in a professional manner, and to direct information requests to the proper staff member is required.
Use of computers in preparation of documents, reports, and correspondence is also required.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and determining percentages.
REASONING ABILITY:
Apply principles of logical thinking to define and solve minor problems or refer problems to appropriate supervisor.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:
Must possess a valid Mississippi Driver's License and a Social Security number.

OTHER:
Ability to comply with City of Tupelo drug/alcohol policy.
Ability to obtain a satisfactory criminal background check.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
