The primary role of recreation research assistant is to collect information from visitors about their recreation experiences in the National Forests and to count visitors at specific locations on the forest.
Team members work independently at locations across the National Forests.
These positions are great fit for active retirees or self-employed people with flexible schedules.
Positions are part-time, working 5 - 10 days monthly.
Weekend work is necessary, and the schedule is irregular but established well in advance on a monthly basis, so as not to conflict with candidate's other obligations.
Position begins at end of September and runs through September 30, 2024.
Travel time from your home to the locations within the forest is paid time, so proximity to one of the Forest districts or central location is relevant (Tupelo, Oxford area).
Positions are offered by the University of Tennessee, which cooperates with the National Forests of South Carolina, and all forests in the southeast United States, to conduct National Forest Service recreation assessments.
To qualify, you must Live near the Holly Springs or Tombigbee National Forest.
This includes the Tupelo and Oxford areas Have had successful experience working independently Be willing to travel locally and have a reliable vehicle for project work (Mileage is reimbursed; no overnight travel is required) - Be able to use a computer tablet and a simple app - Be comfortable working outdoors.
Knowledge of the National Forests and their recreation sites is beneficial, but not essential.
